Handprint – Name Canvas Craft

MATERIALS

  • Canvas (I used 6” x 9”. Any size works as long as the hands fit!)
  • Paint (Non-toxic and safe for children. We bought ours at Michaels Craft Store)
  • EVA Foam (You can also use felt. Felt is easier to cut.)
  • Mod Podge (I used this for glue and to seal the hand prints)
  • Paint brush or sponge (needed for applying paint and Mod Podge)
  • Scissors
  • Printout of your child’s name (If necessary, please feel free to email me at customerservice@mylipi.ca with your child’s name and size of canvas and I can provide you with the Punjabi spelling sized to your canvas, ready for printing).

    • HOW TO

    Print out your child’s name to fit the canvas. Cut it out to make a stencil to trace the name onto the EVA foam or felt. When tracing the name remember to trace it backwards so that the outlines do not show on the front.

    If the name is cut out of EVA Foam:

    Using the paint brush apply Mod Podge to the back of the name to glue the name to the canvas. If you have just the one paint brush you can just wash it and use it again for the paint. Using a paint brush or sponge apply the paint to your child’s hands. Alternatively, you can pour some paint into a paper plate and dip your child’s hand into it. Press hands onto the canvas. Let the paint dry. Once the paint has dried, you can brush over the canvas with the Mod Podge to seal the paint and foam. Let it dry. Hang your masterpiece!

    If the name is cut out of Felt:

    Using a paint brush or sponge apply the paint to your child’s hands. Alternatively, you can pour some paint into a paper plate and dip your child’s hand into it. Press hands onto the canvas. Let the paint dry. Once the paint has dried, you can brush over the canvas with the Mod Podge to seal the paint. Using the paint brush apply Mod Podge to the canvas (not the felt) where you would like the name to be and place the felt onto the canvas before the Mod Podge dries. Let it dry. Hang your masterpiece!
